As part of Military Appreciation Night on December 15, 2015, Catianna Rivera and 49 other new recruits to various branches of the military took to the ice at intermission to take the Oath of Enlistment.

Rivera, a psychology and business major at NCC, was sworn in as a Marine recruit. Growing up in a military family, she has wanted to be a Marine since she was eight years old. "I'm the only girl on both sides of the family, and just want to keep the tradition going," she says.

The Bethlehem native expected to graduate later this year, but may have to postpone the commencement walk for a bit. "I go to boot camp for three months starting in April, then Military Combat Training and MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) school. My MOS is logistics dealing with artillery, explosive and WMD ordinance disposal, so in active duty, I'll be stationed outside of Pennsylvania or overseas."

A career in the Marine Corps is what Rivera hopes for, perhaps as a drill instructor. "It's been an amazing journey, and everything I've worked hard for has been so worth it. I couldn't be happier or more proud of myself - when I get out of boot camp, I will proudly carry the title of United States Marine!"
