Moving to another country where its language is different from your first language is not easy. In 2009, I came from Colombia to live in the USA and I came speaking basic words in English. Both as a person and as a journalist, communication is the most important thing for me, so I chose to take ESL classes at Northampton Community College, which gave me the important tools to improve my communication in English with other people in this country. Furthermore, thanks to ESL, I now can understand more English grammar, being able to write and read it better. As a Spanish proofreader, my challenge is also to write English very well and, as a curious thing, it's me who always ends up correcting the English grammar and writing documents for my husband, who is a doctor. ESL also allowed me to know more about the cultures of other countries through my classmates. It was a very enriching experience.
