Healing Through the Arts

Hope and Healing

Two Northampton Community College (NCC) students who participated in the Hope and Healing juried arts show received awards at a ceremony on March 4 at the Banana Factory in Bethlehem. The show is part of Healing Through the Arts, an organization that provides information and resources to encourage and support healing to individuals, caregivers and their families. NCC adjunct faculty member Dannell MacIlwraith is on the Healing Through the Arts board of directors.

The show's purposes are:

•To inspire hope and healing by raising the awareness that art helps the healing process.

•To create art for hospital patient rooms, treatment areas, clinics.

•To provide students with opportunities to explore and create art that helps healing both for themselves and others.

Participants submitted original art promoting hope and healing by communicating a message of peace, calm, comfort, and inspiration.  Media included painting, photography and mixed media.

Twelve NCC students entered into the contest and have had their work displayed.  The winners were Cambrea Roy for her digital art "Reawaken" and Ben Tallarico for his sharpie and colored pencil drawing "Circle Circus."
