A Seamless New Transfer

NCC and IAUPR sign a transfer and articulation agreement

Mia Rossi,

Business Administration students at Northampton Community College (NCC) have a new path to earn an affordable four-year college degree in an international location thanks to an extraordinary partnership developed with Inter American University of Puerto Rico (IAUPR).

Leaders from IAUPR and NCC recently signed a transfer and articulation agreement to provide a seamless transfer for NCC business administration program graduates to IAUPR in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, where they can complete their bachelor’s degree.

“We’re excited about this unique partnership that provides our students with not only an exceptional opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree but to do so while getting valuable real-world experience living and learning in Puerto Rico,” says Dr. Mark Erickson, president of NCC. “IAUPR is one of the most dynamic universities in Puerto Rico with more than 35,000 students and 200 academic programs. But because of this partnership, it’s something that’s affordable for many of our students.”

Because Puerto Rico is a Commonwealth of the United States, students can transfer their federal FAFSA documents to IAUPR in order to take advantage of in-country tuition rates that are comparable to NCC’s rates. Preferential treatment will be given to NCC students who meet the July 15, 2019 deadline with regards to on-campus housing.

The agreement is meant to promote a cultural exchange between both campuses as well as academic collaboration. Under this transfer and articulation agreement, NCC students who complete up to 51 transferable credit hours will be guaranteed admission into the matching bachelor's degree program with third year (junior) status at IAUPR on the condition that they graduate from NCC with an associate degree holding a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

“It is an honor for us to partner with Northampton Community College, and together provide an exceptional opportunity for students whose immediate aspiration is to complete a Bachelor’s Degree,” says Manuel Fernós, Esq., president of Inter American University of Puerto Rico.

Non-native Spanish speaking students will be required to take part in a Spanish language immersion experience and language proficiency exam prior to enrollment in their program.

NCC has signed over 100 transfer agreements with many four-year colleges and universities. These agreements let students take advantage of the NCC reputation and transfer easily.
