Pet-of-the-Day - Meet Rex
- April 28, 2020
Rex had a surprise in his mouth during a walk!
Your name: Nykolai Blichar
Job title/department: Academic Coach/Learning Center
What kind of pet do you have (dog, cat, bird, etc.)? Dog
What is your pet’s name? Rex
How did you come up with this name? My partner Stevie and I gave him the name Rex to mean king. It just seemed fitting for our little pup at the time.
How old is your pet? 2
What is your pet’s gender? Male
Describe your pet in three words: Rambunctious, Energetic, Loving
What is the thing your pet cannot live without? Stevie and myself
Can your pet do tricks? If so, what? He can fetch his toys and bring them back and will give you kisses on command.
What is the best trick your pet has taught you? The best trick that my pet has taught me is patience. When I am home, he likes to hang around me a lot so sometimes he gets in the way of me trying to get things done, but I love him nonetheless.
Do you have a nickname for your pet? No
You know your pet is in a good mood when he/she does this: I know my pet is in a great mood when he begins wagging his tail excited to see me coming through the door after a long day at work. He will always jump up and down beside you and cling onto your leg to say hello. It’s one of my favorite parts of the day.
Your pet’s favorite spot to hangout is: He loves the couch.
Favorite toy: His favorite toy is his doggy rope.
One habit you would like to change: I would love to stop him from trying to eat everything and anything and tearing things up when he is bored.
Does your pet prefer to play with people, or other animals? People
Does your pet like children? Yes
If you could ask your pet one question and they’d be able to answer it, what would it be? If I could ask my pet one question, it would be a simple one. Do you love your dads?
Can your pet read your emotions? Yes, whenever I am upset or down, Rex always has a way of coming up to me putting his paw on me and trying to give me kisses to make me feel better. It's really a great moment when he recognizes what either I or Stevie is going through.
Funniest moment you’ve had with your pet: I would say the funniest moment I had with Rex was when I was walking him and realized he had something in his mouth. It turned out to be a dead bird and he would not put it down or let me try to take it away from him. He was very adamant about playing with it to the point where he would try (key word on try) to run away with it.
What is the most rewarding aspect of owning your pet? I think the most rewarding part about being a pet owner is that Stevie, myself, and Rex are a family. We often refer to our dog as our child and we as his two fathers. It's amazing to be greeted when I come home and to know that Rex loves us unconditionally. He is just happy to have us in his life and it goes ditto for us both as well.
