Pet-of-the-Day - Meet Wingding Jr.
- April 27, 2020
Winding Jr.'s original name was George!
Your name: Ginger Yavorski
Job title/department: Registrar / Records and Registration
What kind of pet do you have (dog, cat, bird, etc.)? Bearded Dragon
What is your pet’s name? Wingding Jr.
How did you come up with this name? My sons gave her this new name. Until a few weeks ago we didn't have any pets and they absolutely love my sister's dog (a Corgi named Wingding). When we acquired the bearded dragon from my father-in-law they wanted to rename her Wingding but we went with Wingding Jr. Her original name was George as my father-in-law gave most of his pets that name (well at least those that do not respond to their own name / a human voice).
How old is your pet? 4 years old
What is your pet’s gender? Female
Describe your pet in three words: Cool. Quiet. Simple.
What is the thing your pet cannot live without? Crickets. Literally. It's what she eats along with a tiny bit of kale.
Can your pet do tricks? If so, what? She quickly grabs scurrying crickets with her tongue. Some consider that a trick, others consider it eating and survival!
Do you have a nickname for your pet? No
You know your pet is in a good mood when he/she does this: She's cool, quite and simple. She's happy when she eats.
Your pet’s favorite spot to hangout is: On the fake log in her tank while staring at whatever is going on.
Favorite toy: None.
One habit you would like to change: None. She's simple
Does your pet like children? Yes
If you could ask your pet one question and they’d be able to answer it, what would it be? Wingding Jr was given to my boys by their grandfather when he retired to warmer weather. He saw how much they enjoyed her and was intrigued by her so he asked my husband and I if he could leave her behind for them. If I could ask her one question it would be, "are you happy with the decision that was made for you".
Can your pet read your emotions? I don't know but my son was convinced she was staring at me when I was taking photos for this submission.
Funniest moment you’ve had with your pet: I think taking her picture and watching her give me "side eye" in the process while my son is hanging out in the background
What is the most rewarding aspect of owning your pet? Watching my boys enjoy her, especially my youngest. He's still a little kid so everything she does is funny to him. I was never a pet person and I didn't grow up with any but she's pretty simple. If something happened to her, I think I would be fine getting another bearded dragon.
