NCC joins campuses nationwide in effort to be “Voter Friendly”
Northampton Community College (NCC) has been designated a “Voter-Friendly Campus” by national nonpartisan organizations Campus Vote Project and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. The initiative held participating institutions accountable for planning and implementing practices that encourage their students to register and vote in the 2018 elections and in the coming years. The mission of the Voter Friendly Campus designation is to bolster efforts that help students overcome barriers to participating in the political process. NCC was evaluated based on a statement of interest, action plan, execution of that plan, and evaluation efforts. The designation is valid through December 2020.
The Voter Friendly Campus team feels, “NCC’s efforts to break down barriers and empower students with the information and tools they need to participate in the political process puts the civic mission of higher education into action.”
As part of the college’s effort to be designated a voter friendly campus, NCC helped students register for the first time, change their registration, or vote absentee.
NCC has made a strong statement about the civic mission of higher education to prepare students to be engaged participants in our democracy and is excited to continue engaging students. Making voting easier, making our democracy stronger, and citizenship meaningful, means ensuring that student voters have a voice.
The institutions designated Voter Friendly Campuses is part of a select group of campuses from around the country that participated and received the designation. To find more information on this designation, visit www.voterfriendlycampus.org.
