Cecelia M. O'Grady Scholarship

"If I were to meet Mrs. O'Grady, I would thank her 1,000 times for this scholarship," says Bessie Dougouris, a recipient of the Cecelia M. O'Grady Scholarship. A native of Greece, Bessie is grateful not only for the scholarship, but also for U.S. citizenship and for what it means to her and her family. In addition to working hard in her classes, Bessie has sought part-time employment that will help to prepare her to excel in an office environment. It is important to her to be a good role model for her teenage daughters. "My ancestors considered college to be holy ground," she says. "It has always been my dream to go to college. It means so much to me to know that there is someone helping me with my education."

students are more than three times more likely to complete their education than students who are unsure about how they are going to pay for college.
