Program Narrative
The Engineering program is designed primarily for transfer to a baccalaureate degree program in engineering. However, you may also choose to transfer into engineering technologies or go directly into industry in a position requiring math, science, and computing skills. As an engineering program student, you will take courses designed to develop skills common to all engineering specialties - chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, etc. - and typical of programs offered in the first two years of many engineering schools.
This comprehensive background has allowed many of our students to transfer and complete degrees at Lehigh and Drexel Universities, Lafayette College, Penn State, Rutgers, Northeastern and many other engineering schools.
If you plan to transfer to a four-year institution, we encourage you to check with that institution to see what its requirements are. Then carefully select your courses here with the help of an advisor to be sure that they will meet your transfer school's requirements. Historically, transfer students generally perform as well or better in their transfer school as they did when enrolled at Northampton.
Program Features
In the program, you will have access to a full range of student services, including career and personal counseling, transfer counseling, tutoring, and job placement. Your professors are full-time and will conduct both the lecture and lab segments of your studies. You can also look forward to small class sizes, which ensures personal attention when you need it.
The accessible, caring faculty and affordable tuition cost at the College offer you a valuable alternative to traditional colleges or universities. More importantly, you may study full-time or part-time. Courses in this program are offered primarily during the day; however, many have evening sections.
Program Requirements
Engineering is one of the most demanding and challenging of all college majors. And most students pursuing an engineering degree have strong background in math (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus), physics, and chemistry. If you feel you need help or haven't had classes in these areas, NCC advisors can help you schedule specific courses to prepare you for engineering study.
