Community Service Program:

Students eligible for Federal Work Study at Northampton Community College have the opportunity to participate in the Community Service and America Reads / America Counts programs.  America Reads / America Counts are components of the Community Service program which were initiated to use the resources of College Work Study students and other volunteers across the country to improve the reading and math skills of America's children.  These dynamic programs allow college students to give back to their community while earning extra cash to defray some of the cost ot their education.  Students who participate in these programs work as reading and math tutors, library aids and recreational assistants at local elementary schools, libraries, and boys and girls clubs.  The off-campus sites are non-profit organizations which greatly appreciate our students' assistance.  The Financial Aid Office has contracts with numerous sites throughout the local area.  However, if you know of a non-profit organization that would like to participate in this program or you would like a list of currently approved sites, please call the Financial Aid Office at (610) 861-5510 and ask for the Work Study coordinator.

NCC uses Federal Work Study funds to pay the wages of students who work in the Community Service and America Reads / America Counts programs.  The minimum hourly wage for Community Service is $8.15 per hour.  Students may work up to 15 hours per week during the academic year and up to 25 hours per week during the Summer.
