Criminal justice students from Northampton Community College's Monroe campus participated in the Second Annual Josh Miller Memorial 5K Run/Walk on June 13. All proceeds from the event went to the Joshua D. Miller Memorial Scholarship Fund at Northampton Community College/Monroe Campus.
Jason Grillo, Aylin Yusuf, Alfred Johnson and Dimitri Rimpel accomplished the run and "had a good time in doing so," according to Grillo.
Tammi Robinson of Tobyhanna was the first NCC student to receive the scholarship, which was established at the College in 2009 by the Tri-State Trooper Fund to honor the memory of Pennsylvania State Trooper Joshua Miller. The scholarship was created to support and encourage NCC students who choose criminal justice as a career path.
Miller, a Pennsylvania State Police Officer and U.S. Marine veteran, was shot and killed in the line of duty while he and his partner were rescuing a child from a 2009 kidnapping attempt in Monroe County. Miller, a highly decorated trooper, was widely recognized for his commitment to the community and his dedication to police work.
The Tri-State Troopers Fund is a not-for-profit organization which supports the community of law enforcement professionals and their families in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.
