As part of the History and Hollywood Film Series, the films Birth of a Nation and Cold Mountain will be shown at Northampton Community College (NCC) in March.
Cold Mountain, a film based on the Charles Frazier novel about a wounded Confederate soldier struggling to find his way home in North Carolina, will be shown at the Monroe Campus on Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m. in the Community Room. Dr. Precie Schroyer, assistant professor of English, will introduce the movie and lead a discussion afterward.
Birth of a Nation, the 1915 silent film set during the Civil War, will be shown at Main Campus on Sunday, March 25 at 1 p.m. at Lipkin Theatre, Kopecek Hall. Donna Acerra, professor of communication, will introduce the film. Sol Levy, assistant professor of history, will facilitate discussion using selected clips from the film. Rebecca Dean, professor of communication, will be on the panel.
The History and Hollywood Series is part of The Civil War: The Meaning of Freedom, a year-long exploration of the progress we have made toward national ideals since the Civil War, made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities, matched by generous donors and in partnership with the Bethlehem Area Public Library, Bethlehem Area School District, Eastern Monroe Public Library, Historic Bethlehem Partnership, Monroe County Historical Society, and Stroudsburg Area High School.
