When Kathleen Kunsman, a web development major at Northampton Community College, sat down to design a logo for the Easton Area Chamber of Commerce (EACC), she looked towards the most recognizable landmark of Easton's Center Square for inspiration: a 75-foot tall monument created in 1900 that is dedicated to all Union soldiers.

Kunsman and her fellow students in the computer graphics class, taught by Tristine Harding, were given the opportunity to design a logo for the EACC.  Kunsman's logo was chosen as the winner and was recognized at the Chamber's annual meeting on November 3.

"I am excited about my logo being chosen because it affirms my career change," said Kunsman.  "This let me know I am on the right track."

Kunsman has been taking classes at NCC part-time since January 2007.  After she lost her job of 14 years as an executive assistant at a local financial planning and investment firm due to corporate downsizing in August 2008, Kunsman enrolled in additional classes to make the most of her unemployment.  She earned her specialized diploma in Multimedia Production in the Spring of 2009 and is currently working towards an associate's degree in Web Development, a new major offered this Fall.

Kunsman says her husband and two children inspire her to continue her education and earn a college degree.
