The Science Olympiad

Area high school students participated in the annual Science Olympiad competition at Northampton Community College on February 22. The Science Olympiad is a tournament of rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of individual and team events.

The following high schools participated in the Science Olympiad:  Bethlehem Catholic, Central Catholic, East Stroudsburg North, East Stroudsburg South, Easton, Emmaus, Freedom, Lehighton, Liberty, Nazareth, Parkland, Pleasant Valley, Stroudsburg, Whitehall-Coplay, and William Allen High School.

The competition was broken up into three divisions:  Mountain Valley Conference, Lehigh Valley Conference, and Overall. Schools competed against other schools in their regions, and then for overall bragging rights.

The students competed in events that were balanced among three broad areas of science standards:  science concepts and knowledge, science processes and inquiry skills, and science application technology.

The day finished with an awards ceremony at which the winners were announced:
