Welcome to the Biology Department
Northampton Community College has a Biological Science Program, which offers an Associate in Science Degree. The curriculum requires students to take a series of biology courses, including Biology I & II, Environmental Biology, General Ecology and Introduction to Cell & Molecular Biology. In addition, program students must take courses in General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Math, Speech Communication, English, and a choice of different liberal arts electives. The curriculum is organized to prepare students for transfer to 4-year institutions or to find gainful employment in the biological sciences.
The Biology Department is composed of a group of dynamic faculty members, who are committed to providing a learning environment that challenges students to be critical thinkers and lifelong learners. Students will be engaged in investigative learning by using different lab equipment, going on field trips, working in the greenhouse, and participating in other course activities. Supplemental learning resources are offered through the Learning Center with walk-in tutoring and individual tutoring at no additional cost for registered students. A wide array of additional support services are available for our Northampton Community College students.
Program graduates have transferred to various public and private institutions in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, such as Cedar Crest College, East Stroudsburg University, Kutztown University, Pennsylvania State University, Temple University and West Chester University. Some program students have transferred to 4-year institutions in other states, including Colorado, Florida and New York.
