Distinguished Service to the Community Award 2007

Cindy Workman
has been part of the Northampton family since 1974, when she earned her degree in dental hygiene. She followed that up by sharing the skills of her trade as an adjunct clinical instructor in the College's dental hygiene program from 1978 to 1998. During that time Cindy made us all proud of her again, in 1996, by graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in marketing from DeSales University.

Cindy makes her alma mater proud of her in many ways; and she more than demonstrates the criteria for this award with numerous distinguished accomplishments in community service. Her's is another long list of caring with volunteer activities for the ArtsQuest special events committee, Musikfest, CelticFest, Chriskindlmart, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival – most of these organizations have benefited from Cindy's volunteerism for at least a decade (and two decades in the case of Musikfest) and her commitment continues into the present.

She has also served on the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival Guild Board and is a graduate of Musikfest Leadership I and II. She was a volunteer for the 2000 Senior Open in Center Valley, and was coordinator for Bethlehem's “Steel Bound” play, as well as coordinator of the Steel Festival committee. She is now on the coordinating committee for Bethlehem's new festival “Star of Bethlehem”, scheduled for May 2008.

Cindy's commitment to her profession is admirable, with affiliations that include the American Dental Hygienists Association, Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists Association and the Lehigh Valley Dental Hygienists Association. She is a Distinguished Member of the Academy of Dental Hygienist Studies, and a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda Adult Honor Society. And, in addition to being a past member of NCC's Dental Advisory Board, Cindy has participated in a variety of community dental health projects including programs for Girl Scouts, Head Start, and the Sealant Saturday event for the PDHA.

She and her husband, Frank, live in Bethlehem. Cindy is a Eucharistic minister at Holy Infancy Catholic Church and works full-time as a clinical instructor for Dr. Randy Heard in Bangor, and part-time for Dr. James Newman in Easton. All of that, and she still finds time to put together alumni reunions for Northampton's dental hygiene class of 1974.

At Northampton we like to point out that Community is our middle name. Apparently, that is Cindy's middle name as well. NCC's Alumni Association is proud to present Cindy Workman with its Distinguished Service to the Community Award.
