Architecture Career Options

Graduates of the program at Northampton will be prepared for transfer into an accredited five year Bachelor of Architecture Professional Program leading to a three-year internship and NCARB Examination to practice architecture.

Architects usually work for architecture firms where they consult with clients, develop reports and drawings, and work with other architects and engineers. However, architects often visit construction sites to review the progress of projects. Many work more than 50 hours per week. A licensed architect, after gaining experience, may take on increasingly responsible duties and eventual managing entire projects. Architects may advance to supervisory or managerial positions in large firms. Some become partners in established firms while others set up their own practices.

According to the United States Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov), employment of architects is projected to grow 24 percent by 2020, faster than the average for all occupations. Current demographic trends will result in a greater need for architects. Those who distinguish themselves with their creativity should have the best job opportunities.
