UNITED WAY OF MONROE COUNTY:
  The United Way of Monroe County recognized the NCC Monroe Campus at their annual dinner as "having a distinguished employee campaign."  At their annual recognition dinner, NCC Monroe Campus received a "Special Acheivement Award" for staff and faculty contributing 23% past last year's goal.  The Monroe Campus raised $3145 in total for the United Way of Monroe County.

FALL 2006

SHOES THAT FIT: 
Can you imagine attending gym class with other little boys and not having anything on your feet but your sisters pink jelly shoes?  Shoes That Fit is a non-profit children's charity started in 1992.  They program assists children in need by providing them with new shoes so they can attend schools and daycare centers in comfort and dignity.

Service Learning Students at the NCC Monroe Campus will be participating in this unique program Fall 2006.  The goal is to provide 75 need based children from Morey Elementary School in Stroudsburg, PA and NCC Hannig Family Children's Center with new shoes.  For more inforamtion or to get involved, please contact Erin Reilly, Sociology, EReilly@northampton.edu or Jennifer Bell, Student Services JBell@northampton.edu.


BREAST CANCER AWARENESS & DONATIONS:  In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month - the Monroe Criminal Justice CLub hosted an awareness booth Monroe Campus Lobby 10am - 2pm Mon. Oct. 2 - pink ribbon donations - $1 for ribbons or $5 for plastic ribbon pins/ to wear denim to work, educational info, and pledge card drive for Breast Cancer. In addition, the Criminal Justice Club of the Monroe Campus sold t-shirts with the logo "Perky For Life" to benefit the Breast Cancer research at Fox Chase, Philadelphia. They encouraged staff/faculty/staudents to wear "denim" on Friday Oct. 6th in honor of National Sponsor Lee Jeans - Breast Cancer's Denim Day.

PA Election 2006: The students of the NCC Monroe Campus began the Fall 06 semester with a campaign, "Get Out & Vote!" and "Registered?"  The Criminal Justice Club and the Student Governance organization collaborated efforts on Sept. 18th to celebrate National Constitution Day and encourage students and staff to register to vote.  In addition, Student Governance will continue to supply information on Election 2006 and educate students on the voting process.  On Elction Day, November 7th, NCC Monroe Campus is a designated polling place in Pocono Township.  Governance and Criminal Justice will supply the community voters with bake goods and American Flags in our lobby and are greeters for Election Day 06.

SPRING 2006

Art in Schools Program:  This Spring, NCC Monroe Campus students collected art supplies to donate to Morey Elementary School in Stroudsburg.  Their goal was to provide art supply packs to each child, K-2nd Grade, and to keep the future of our children colorful.  The Student Leadership Program project leaders, Annie Parascando, Stacey Tisdale and Kristie VanLeuvan were able to collect art supplies and monetary donations from NCC staff/faculty and students and community businesses, worth over $600 to complete their goal and arrange over 285 art gift bags and additional supplies to Morey Elementary School Art Teacher, Meg Mellar's classroom.

WalkAmerica, March of Dimes: 
On April 30, over 30 students, staff, faculty and friends joined Team NCC Monroe to walk to save infant lives.  Student Leadership Program members, Aummy Ninkamhana, Ernie Rentas and Karen Trebitz lead the Team NCC Monroe to campaign for donations for the March of Dimes in NE PA.
