NCC Grad Wins Food Network's "Sweet Genius"

January 18, 2013

Chocolatier and Northampton Community College alumnus Chef Alan Pitotti, owner of DolceChef Alan Pitotti Patisserie in Hellertown, won Food Network's sugar-packed competition show "Sweet Genius" on January 17.

Pitotti battled three other chefs in a series of  challenges requiring them to create scrumptious sweets with surprise ingredients in a limited amount of time. He had to use curveball ingredients such as yellow mustard, green wasabi peas, blue corn chips and sweet potatoes.

As the winner, Pitotti received $10,000 plus the title of Sweet Genius bestowed on him by Master Pastry Chef Ron Ben-Israel, host of the show. Ben-Isreal called Pitotti's butter toffee "one of the best toffees I've ever eaten."

Chef Pitotti will showcase his confectionery skills at a demonstration at the Fowler Family Southside Center's demo kitchen on Monday, April 22. He'll show how to make chocolate straws, chocolate fans, chocolate curls, colorful decorations and more. And yes, there will be samples!  The cost is $27.
