The Northampton women's volleyball team went 7-0 at Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament, hosted by Onondaga Community College, to claim the 2013 tournament championship.
Emily Koehler (Northampton) recorded 58 kills during the tournament and was named Tournament MVP, while Barbara Dimon (Pine Grove) joined her on the All-Tournament team, registering 47 kills over the seven matches.
"I'm so happy for these girls," remarked Head Coach Adrian Yaquez. "They have worked so hard all season; winning this tournament really validates our program and the commitment that these girls have made to the team."
The Spartans defeated Jefferson Community College (Watertown, NY) in the championship match, 25-15, 25-16. Koehler had 10 kills in the championship, while Lindsey Kaiser (Nazareth) added 8 digs.
(Bethlehem Catholic) recorded 163 assists on the weekend, while Anna Domyan (Bethlehem Catholic) added 34 kills. Samantha Bertasavage (Pine Grove) registered 26 kills, Sawyer Hoyak (Notre Dame) had 30 digs and Samantha Schnabel (Catasauqua) had 4 blocks for the tournament.
Over the seven matches, which were best two out of three format, Northampton went 14-1 in games played, losing only to Monroe Community College (Rochester, NY) 20-25 in the third match of pool play.
Northampton, ranked 6th in the latest NJCAA poll, is now 28-0 on the season. The Spartans return to action on October 15th when they travel to Paramus, NJ, to face Bergen Community College at 7 p.m.
