Computer Services Network Policy
Did You Know???
Northampton Community College provides Network Connections in the Library Media Tower and its residence facilities. Wireless access is also available in the Library, the outdoor lounge area between Richardson Hall and College Center, between Penn Hall and College Center, the Quad, Laub Lounge, Founders, Hartzell, Communications Halls, the Wedge (Monroe campus) as well the café and student services.
Available Services
NCC-SUN grants basic Internet access only; for example:
· Standard Web traffic - port 80
· Standard secure sockets layer (SSL) traffic - Port 443
Hardware/Software Requirements
Students are responsible for providing their own computers. To use NCC-SUN, student computers must have the following hardware and software:
· Windows XP with Service Pack 2, Mac OS 10, or higher
· Correctly installed 10/100 megabyte Ethernet network interface card
· Standard Ethernet category 5 cable
· For Wireless users, a correctly installed 802.11b Wi-Fi card
· Correctly installed TCP/IP protocol set for DHCP
· Current anti-virus software
· Obtain most recent drivers for NIC (network interface card)
Support
NCC is not responsible for the above requirements. Except for verifying correct network settings, NCC does not provide any type of support or repair services for student-owned computers. NCC staff cannot modify or attempt to repair a non-functioning computer. All repairs are the responsibility of the student. Also, NCC is not responsible for the security of the data on student computers. Students are responsible for securing their computer with the latest software patches for their operating system and applications, including anti-virus updates.
Restrictions The following are not allowed on or from computers attached to NCC-SUN:

File sharing software (e.g., KaZaA, Morpheus, WinMX).

FTP servers containing copyrighted material (software, MP3 files, etc.).

Excessive amounts of data, either inbound or outbound.

Web servers containing commercial content or for commercial purposes.

Ping attacks or other "denial of service" attacks on other computers.

Servers and or programs that use large amounts of bandwidth or impede normal network functions.

Attempting to access computers you do not have accounts on.

NCC students violating the above may be subject to disciplinary action.
