Northampton Community College ’s (NCC) Center for Adult Literacy and Basic Workforce Development has been awarded $148,000 in IMPACT grant funding from Pennsylvania Department of Education's Bureau of Adult Basic and Literacy Education.
The grants have been provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to help students enrolled in adult literacy classes move on to postsecondary education and careers.
The three IMPACT-funded programs will run from December 3, 2007 to June 30, 2008:
1) Intensive Contextualized Managed Instruction, $53,000.
This Fowler Family Southside Center-based program will provide instruction related to specific career fields to assist students in English as a Second Language classes in obtaining or retaining employment.
2) Career Gateway, $40,000.
This program will be based at NCC's Fountain Court site in Monroe County. The program will provide higher level math and reading instruction to literacy students who are transitioning to postsecondary education or training.
3) Case Management, $55,000.
This Fowler Family Southside Center-based program will provide intensive case management services to students who are currently attending literacy classes. These supplemental services will include both individual counseling and group workshops. A transferable three-credit Student Success course will be included in the program.
Students will be dually enrolled in literacy programs and at least one of the IMPACT programs.
