Counseling Services

A collection of online pamphlets covering a variety of counseling related issues.
Personal counseling: Available on a short-term, confidential basis for students dealing with issues such as anxiety, family and relationship concerns, body image, depression, academic performance, and alcohol and drug abuse. For students who require long-term therapy staff are skilled at making referrals into the community so that students obtain the care that they require.

Group counseling: Offered based on student need and interest.

Workshops: Offered each semester on topics such as test anxiety, stress management, time management, test taking techniques.
Walk-in advising: Offered from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m Monday - Thursday and 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday by Advising Specialists who are very familiar with the curriculum and academic policy and procedures. They assist students in course selection, developing a schedule for the semester and making changes to their schedule. Students with more personal issues will be seen by one of the counselors.

Transfer advising: For students who plan to earn a bachelor's degree. Staff are particularly knowledgeable about the entrance requirements for many local colleges and the state university system. They can explain about the "academic passport" which guarantees admission for any community college graduate with an A.A. or A.S. degree into any of the state universities. Career Exploration Services

Online Service: Virtual Career Development Center
This is an online resource designed to guide you through some of the basic steps of choosing a career.

Career counseling: For students seeking assistance choosing a major, who have questions related to the job market in specific majors or who may be changing their career.


Career testing: Staff administer and interpret the Career Assessment Inventory, Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) as a way of helping students narrow their interests in relation to specific careers and to further understand their personality style and how that affects career choice. The Career Assessment Inventory and the MBTI can be taken on-line. All testing is free of charge.

The Career Library: Located in the Advising, Transfer and Career Services Office, College Center 341. The Career Library contains information on potential employers, information about different kinds of careers, job search guides and relevant research material.

Counseling Services are offered in College Center 250 and 341 on the Main Campus and in the Counseling area on the Monroe Campus.
