1. What is the average fall semester enrollment?
In the Fall of 2004, Northampton Community College enrolled a total of 8,246 credit students, 3,565 full-time and 4,681 part-time.

2. How transferable are NCC's credits?
If you are in a transfer program, NCC's courses are designed to transfer to four-year institutions: state, private or out-of-state institutions. Once enrolled, students should meet with a transfer counselor located in the Counseling Center to ensure transferability of courses. See the Individualized Transfer Studies program profile to see how a student can customize their NCC major.

3. Where can students transfer to?

NCC students can transfer credits to any college and university. Transferring from NCC to a PA state university became easier with the  Academic Passport program. Students who earn an A.A. or A.S. degrees from NCC will be admitted to a State System of Higher Education (SSHE) University. Students are ensured the transfer and acceptance of all courses completed at Northampton. Exceptions to this may include a change of major or highly technical courses. A student needs to be an NCC graduate and have an overall grade point average of 2.0 (C) or better. Contact the Admissions Office 610-861-5500 to learn more about what degrees are considered transfer programs.

4. When and how does a student apply to NCC?
Northampton is on a rolling-admission, with no specific deadlines for applications except for the competitive Allied Health and Culinary Arts programs. Click on Special Requirements to see criteria. If the student intends to earn a degree or certificate on a full-time or part-time basis, these items must be submitted: A completed application form accompanied with a $25 non-refundable application fee. Official transcripts from high school, GED or college, if applying for a selective program; financial aid or to transfer credits into NCC.

5. Can students live on campus?
Yes. The college provides two housing options: dorms or apartment complex. All new and returning NCC full-time credit students are eligible to apply. A student must apply and be accepted to the College before being considered for housing. Student apartments are usually reserved for returning students. For additional information, visit the housing page.

6. Are students required to purchase a meal plan?
All students living in the dorms are required to obtain one of our three meal plan options. First semester freshman living in the apartments must purchase a modified meal plan. Commuting students at NCC may use a flex card or cash when using our cafeteria or residence hall snack bar. For additional information on the meal plans and the flex card, please contact the Bursar Office, Student Enrollment Center.

7. Where and when do we buy books?
The NCC bookstore on the first floor of College Center provides books and supplies. Textbooks are usually available three weeks before the first day of class of each semester. Used books are available from students, but make sure you are buying the correct edition.

8. Does my son or daughter need a computer? Does NCC provide Internet access?

Students are not required to have their own personal computer. NCC provides IBM compatible PCs with Internet access. Currently, our Main Campus houses several spacious computer labs and over 1,000 computers for student use.  Wireless access is also available in several areas including the library, Laub Lounge, quad, and North Campus.  The Monroe Campus has two computer labs with four computers in the commons area as well. Computer labs are open seven days a week with flexible hours.

Resident students may bring their own computers in the residence halls and student apartments Internet access through their individual telephone lines.

9. Is the campus a safe environment?
Northampton provides a safe and secure college environment for your son or daughter. All students are required to obtain a student ID - this ID has multiple purposes - including swipe access to the residence halls, library card, and meal plan purposes. The residence hall has 24-hour front desk attendant and surveillance cameras in the lobbies and hallways. NCC security patrols the buildings, grounds, parking lots, and student housing seven days a week, and 24 hours a day. Parking lots are supplied with emergency telephones in designated areas and are signified with a blue light.

Northampton offers financial assistance to those who qualify. Click to find out about scholarships. The Financial Aid Office can be reached at 610- 861-5510. NCC offers an interest-free payment plan through our Bursar's Office.

11. What if my son and/or daughter is unsure of what program to study; does a student have to declare a major right away?
Students do not have to declare a major right away to enroll at NCC. We have many students taking General Studies courses to see which major to pursue and what they enjoy. The Career Services and Counseling Offices offer students assistance in many areas of career and transfer choices.

12. Is there orientation for new students?
Every summer, NCC hosts a new student orientation for new students and their family. This is a great time to become familiar with Northampton; learn about our services and facilities, and meet other students beginning their college careers. At this time, students will have the opportunity to tour the campus; chat with faculty; and register for fall classes.
