EARLY CHILDHOOD HEALTH & SAFETY CREDIT COURSES

EARL 160  - Child Care Health Advocate
The Child Care Health Advocate course is intended to prepare the Child Care Practitioner to function in the role of a Child Care Health Advocate (CCHA).  The course will address 15 different health and safety modules as a resource for child care directors, teachers, assistant teachers, and child care practitioners.  The Child Care Health Advocate who will be working in a child care setting will learn to assess, identify and prioritize health and safety needs of children and staff.  The completion of the course assists the participants in learning their role in participating in health and safety activities to ensure activities occur in thier facility.  Textbooks are required for the course and should be purchased at the Fowler Family Southside Center bookstore.  Course is available online and in the traditional classroom setting.  The course is being offered Tuesday evenings from 6-9PM, January 20-May 12 for the spring 2009 semester. Participants are invited to attend an information session held December 8 at 6PM at the Fowler Family Southside Center in Bethlehem.  To register for the information session, please call 610-332-6585 or email jpascarosa@northampton.edu.

AHA Pediatric First Aid for Child Care Practitioners
This course is designed to provide pediatric first aid information for child care practitioners, teachers, and parents. Participants will learn what to do when a child is injured or becomes ill. Participants are eligible to receive AHA Pediatric First Aid competency certificate which is valid for 2 years. CEUs: 0.4

 
Heartsaver CPR - Pediatric (Infants and Children)
This course is designed to teach CPR and relief of foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) for infants (birth to one year) and children (one year to eight years). CEUs: 0.4
 

ECELS - Managing Illness
In this workshop participants will learn how to handle illness in child care settings, how to protect the health of staff and other children, and how to  implement the national standards in their facilities. CEUs: 0.2

 

Child Care Provider's Fire Safety Awareness
This course will provide information and techniques that will allow the student to identify and assess fire hazards. It will further provide information that will guide appropriate action to prevent, control, diminish and/or eliminate fire hazards and threats. Emphasis is placed on safety for all actions taken. CEUs: 0.2

Registration Information
Participants may register for courses online by clicking here, in-person at the Student Enrollment Center at the Main Campus in Bethlehem, and with a credit card via telephone at 1-877-543-0998.  Companies may also register their employees with a billing option.  Please complete the registration form and send with  a cover memo on company letterhead requesting that the company be billed for the courses.  The memo should also include the student's name and course code along with contact information for the company and person completing the form.  Finally, FAX the completed forms to 610-861-5551.
