RN & LPN Reactivation, Review & Continuing Education Courses

The Center for Healthcare Education offers several non-credit courses for Registered Nurses (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) who are looking to re-enter the field of nursing, prepare for the licensing examination or acquire additional skills to assist them with their profession.

CHE also offers a Perioperative Academy in partnership with St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network.  The Perioperative Academy offers Registered Nurses and Surgical Technologists a combination of distance learning, classroom and clinical education for working with clients preoperatively, intraoperatively and postoperatively in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and physicians offices.  Currently all classes are held at the Fowler Family Southside Center in Bethlehem.  Contracted training is also available on-site or on-campus.  For individuals looking to begin a career as an RN or LPN, please contact the College's Admission Office at 610-861-5500.

   
Reactivation Courses  

Reactivation Program for Licensed Practical Nurses
This non-credit course is designed for the inactive LPN intending to return to practice and/or requiring to reactivate a permanent PA license. The program consists of 44 theory hours with 80 clinical hours, plus 16 hours of skills lab running concurrently. Clinical hours will be held at a local acute care facility under the direction of the program clinical coordinator and health care facility's preceptors/mentors. Course is approved by the PA State Board of Nursing. CEUs: 14.0

 

Reactivation Program for Registered Nurses
The program consists of 60 theory hours with 120 clinical hours, plus 16 hours skills lab running concurrently. Clinical hours will be held at a local acute care facility under the direction of the program clinical coordinator and health care facility's preceptors/mentors. Course approved by the PA State Board of Nursing. CEUs: 19.6

Review Courses

LPN Practice Review
Theory-based instructional program designed to review basic nursing knowledge and incorporate information on recent technological advancements. The program consists of 44 theory hours plus 16 hours of skills lab running concurrently. An excellent review for the non-practicing LPN with a current license and the new graduate preparing for NCLEX. CEUs: 6.0

 

RN Practice Review
Theory based instructional program designed to review basic nursing knowledge and incorporate information on recent technological advancements. The program consists of 60 theory hours plus 16 hours of skills lab running concurrently. An excellent review for the non-practicing RN with a current license and the new graduate preparing for NCLEX. CEUs: 7.6

Perioperative Academy
Introduction to Perioperative Nursing
This web-based, distance learning course is appropriate for the experienced RN who wants to work in an operating room or function in units where invasive procedures are performed on a routine basis. This goal of this introductory-level program is to provide an experienced RN with the basic knowledge to get started as a perioperative nurse. The program includes both didactic activities and a hospital-based operating room clinical preceptor program. Participation in this course requires that a surgical facility sponsor the student and a clinical preceptor be assigned to give the student access to the operating room environment. Enrollment in this course requires that the student meet ALL requirements:

1) Be a registered nurse (RN) with an active state license.
2) Provide two letters of recommendation.
3) Be BLS certified.
4) Agree to obtain and sign the Sponsorship Agreement.
5) Have provisional coverage under the malpractice insurance policy of the sponsoring facility.

Contact hours for this continuing nursing education activity have been applied for through the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses, Inc., an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission of Accreditation.

Activities that are approved by AORN are recognized as continuing education for registered nurses. Continuing Education Courses

EKG Interpretation I: The Beat Goes On + On
This is an introduction to electrocardiogram (EKG) interpretation useful in the health care profession.  Learn the basics to analyze and understand the EKG and heart function. Prerequisites: RN/LPN/EKG technician.  This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. EKG Interpretation II Explored: Review of Dysthythmias
A review for RN, LPN, EKG technicians on identification and treatment of dysthythmias. This course is a good review for preparation for Advanced Cardiac Life Support. This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Prerequisite: EKG Interpretation I. Contact Hours: 16           

IV Therapy - Throughout the Life Span
This is an introduction or refresher intravenous therapy course for RN's or LPN's.  Learn the basics or expand your current skills. Prerequisite: RN/LPN degree. This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s
