SPECIAL EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENT KEY
All courses require students to have at least a pen/pencil and a notebook. Course descriptions list specific requirements for each course.
CARE- Cave Rescue Basic Orientation - Students will need the following equipment for both days: helmet with chin strap (fire, construction or climbing helmet), three (3) independent light sources (at least one of which must be helmet mounted), eye protection (such as safety glasses or goggles - helmet face shields are also acceptable), leather palm gloves, work or hiking boots which provide support (NO SNEAKERS), outdoor work (rugged) clothing appropriate for temperatures in 50 degrees in the cave, a personal cave pack suitable for carrying personal supplies underground, a water bottle or other suitable device for storing liquids and two large heavy duty garbage bags. Student may bring additional personal or department owned equipment, but all such equipment will be subject to inspection prior to use. Fire fighter turnout gear is not acceptable for this class.
CSR - Confined Space Rescue - Student will need the following equipment for both days: helmet with chin strap (fire, construction or climbing helmet), eye protection (such as safety glasses or goggles), leather gloves, work or hiking boots which provide support (NO SNEAKERS), knee pads possible, outdoor work clothing or coveralls appropriate for weather conditions an S.C.B.A (positive-pressure type only). Fire fighter turnout gear is not acceptable for this class.
EP - Eye Protection - Eye protection, such as safety glasses or goggles.
FCIR - Ice Rescue - Students will need appropriate clothing for weather conditions, and a set of warm, dry clothes to change into, helmets and personal flotation devices.
FCLS - Water Rescue: Line Systems
FCWA - Water Rescue: Phase II - Students will need swimsuit, towels, get wet clothing for prevailing weatehr conditions, whistle, personal flotation device, wet suit(if possible), waterproof bag and water rescue helmet (if available).
FCWR - Water Rescue: Phase I - STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PASS A SWIMMING TEST AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CLASS. Students will need swimsuit, towels, get wet clothing for prevailing weather conditions, whistle, personal flotation device, and water rescue helmet (if available).
ROBR - Basic Rigging for Rope Rescue - Students will need the following equipment for both days: helmet with chin strap (fire, construction or climbing helmet), eye protection (such as safety glasses or goggles - helmet face shields are not acceptable), clean leather gloves, work or hiking boots which provide support (NO SNEAKERS), outdoor work clothing appropriate for weather conditions, water bottle or other suitable device for storing liquids in the field. Students may bring additional personal or department owned equipment, but all such equipment will be subject to inspection prior to use. Fire fighter turnout gear is not acceptable for this class. Students will also need a 15-foot section of rope and one 15-foot piece of one inch tubular webbing for knot practice.
ROPE - Rope/High Angle Rescue - Students will need the following equipment for both days: helmet with chin strap (fire, construction or climbing helmet), eye protection (such as safety glasses or goggles - helmet face shields are not acceptable), clean leather gloves, work or hiking boots which provide support (NO SNEAKERS), outdoor work clothing appropriate for weather conditions, water bottle or other suitable device for storing liquids in the field. Students may bring additional personal or department owned equipment, bot all such equipment will be subject to inspection prior to use. Fire fighter turnout gear is not acceptable for this class.
SCBA - Self Contained Breathing Appartus - Positive-pressure self contained breathing appartus meeting NFPA standards.
SCOF - Structural Collapse Operations - Level II - Students will need the following equipment for both days: helmet with chin strap (fire, construction or climbing helmet), eye protection (such as safety glasses or goggles - helmet face shields are not acceptable), ear protection, leather gloves, work or hiking boots which provide support (NO SNEAKERS), outdoor work clothing or coveralls appropriate for weather conditions. Fire fighter turnout gear with the additional protection listed above is acceptable for this class.
TOG - Turn-out Gear - Preferably meeting NFPA standards consisting of helmet, ear/neck protection, eye protection, protective coat and pants, fire service books, bloves and (preferably) PASS device. Students should also wear long sleeve shirts and trousers under turn-out gear.
TRE - Trench Rescue - Students will need the following equipment for both days: helmet with chin strap (fire, construction or climbing helmet), eye protection (such as safety glasses or googles - helmet face shields are not acceptable), leather gloves, work or hiking boots which provide support (NO SNEAKERS), outdoor work clothing or coveralls appropriate for weather conditions. Fire fighter turnout gear with the additional protection listed above is acceptable for this class.
WBFF - Wild Land Fire Fighting - Students will need the following equipment for both days: helmet with chin strap (fire, construction or climbing helmet), eye protection (such as safety glasses or goggles - helmet face shields are not acceptable), leather gloves, work or hiking boots which provide support (NO SNEAKERS), outdoor work clothing or coveralls appropriate for weather conditions. Fire fighter turnout gear is not acceptable for this class.
WC - Work Clothing - Sturdy work clothing (appropriate for weather conditions) consisting of trousers and long sleeved shirt or coveralls, hard hat, eye protection, work gloves and hard-toe shoes/boots.
WILD - Wilderness Search & Rescue - Students will need clothing appropriate for weather conditions, sturdy work or hiking-type boots, eye protection and a compass.
