My name is Gail Mrowinski. I am the Associate Dean-Community Education, and I administer the Horizons for Youth Program along with Center for Adult Learning. I have over twenty-two years of work experience in various social service and educational positions including; Youth Advocates, Program for Female Offenders, Private Industry Council, and for the past ten years Northampton Community College. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh and Masters Degree in Educational Leadership at Lehigh University. I started at the college in 1991 managing adult training programs, such as clerical, computer, and maintenance mechanics. I started coordinating the youth program in the summer of 1993. As it grew, I continued to do both adult and youth programming until 1996 when my responsibilities became strictly youth programming. Although not a native, I have lived in the area for more than twenty years with my family. As a working parent, I understand the needs and concerns of parents as they look for quality safe care for their children particularly during the summer months. My life experiences with our child's involvement in school, society, art, and sports have inspired me in the creation of our course offerings. I have always enjoyed working with children and particularly enjoy providing educational opportunities that excite children. I represent our program through membership in the National and State School Age Care Alliance (NSACA). In addition, I network with local schools and child care agencies. This involvement helps me to stay attuned to the issues and concerns that face families and helps me create and provide programming that meets their needs.
