General Evacuation Procedures

All building evacuations will occur when an alarm sounds continuously and/or through notification by emergency personnel, or through our emergency alert system.

  • Remain Calm
  • If time permits, review the emergency placard near the door for the safest evacuation route.  Otherwise evacuate via the closest exit.
  • If possible, the last person should close the door behind them to prevent the fire from spreading.
  • Take only essentials as time permits.
  • DO NOT use elevators.
  • Be aware of people with disabilities in your area who may need assistance – notify emergency personnel.
  • Once outside, move clear of the building by at least 500 feet, allowing others to exit, or to a designated evacuation zone.
  • Keep streets, fire lanes, hydrant areas and walkways clear for emergency vehicles and personnel.
  • DO NOT return to the evacuated building until you are given clearance by emergency personnel.
  • Consult and check in with your Building Marshall who know the evacuation zones for your building.
