Dental Anesthesia Update for Dental Hygienists
The Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry granted registered dental hygienists the opportunity to administer local anesthetic within their scope of practice. To be eligible to apply for biennial permit renewal, a three (3) hour minimum of the hygienist’s twenty (20) hours of continuing education must be related to the administration of local anesthetics. This course will re-familiarize the hygienist with the solutions, instruments, and techniques for safe, effective local anesthesia. Register early to secure your spot and fulfill your licensing renewal!

Local Anesthesia for Dental Hygienists
Designed to provide the licensed dental hygienist with basic concepts of pain management in the dental practice. Includes a review of essential anatomy and neurophysiology, pharmacology of anesthetic and vasoconstriction agents, client assessment, armamentarium, local anesthetic complications and their management. Instruction and practice of local anesthesia delivery techniques will occur in a clinical lab setting. All prerequisites must be completed by May 2. Since all students will be receiving anesthesia injections, they must not have a health condition which would be prevent this, including pregnancy. This program does not fulfill anesthesia licensing requirement for New Jersey.
