Top of the charts in special education
College Consensus ranked Northampton Community College (NCC) number seven out of twenty-five colleges recognized in their survey of the Best Online Associate's in Special Education for 2020. NCC understands the importance of meeting students’ needs in this rapidly changing climate, and the program aims to do just that.
“Online education is booming but not all online programs are created equal. With potential online students wanting the best schools with the greatest affordability, most convenience, and highest return on investment, College Consensus has put together the top programs in the country with these high standards,” says Carole Baker of College Consensus.
College Consensus ranks associate degree programs by affordability, reputation and alumni success. What influenced the ranking was that, “NCC’s online programs also offer extensive virtual resources including access to counseling, career services, disability services, and an extensive library,” according to the website.
NCC’s special education paraeducator degree can be completed fully online if desired. The program is designed to prepare students to work in classrooms under a certified to teacher as an essential part of a team that can deliver specialized programs for children with varying abilities in diverse educational atmospheres across all age levels. The Occupational Outlook by the Bureau of Labor Statistics suggests that this career will grow 3-8% by 2026.
Robin Cunconan-Lahr, the program coordinator at NCC, says, “The right of every child with a disability to be included across all educational environments and experiences is maximized when a range of supports are provided, including qualified paraeducators. NCC's special education program prepares students for this important supportive role.”
