A $500,000 Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant that will enable students to safely walk from the proposed Polk Street parking garage to Northampton Community College's (NCC's) Fowler Family Southside Center was approved and announced by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf on Dec. 22.

"This is a great day for the continued development of Bethlehem's South Side and Northampton Community College," Dr. Mark Erickson, president of NCC, said. "We could not have asked for a better Christmas present than the approval of our $500,000 RACP grant request supporting the pedestrian ramp that will connect the planned Polk Street parking garage to NCC's Fowler Center on Third Street. We believe this project is a gateway to the further development of both the college and Bethlehem's South Side. We are so grateful to Gov. Wolf as well as Sen. Pat Browne, Sen. Lisa Boscola and Rep. Steve Samuelson whose support made it all possible."

The Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) is a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional, economic, cultural, civic, recreational, and historical improvement projects.

Located in the heart of Southside Bethlehem, the Fowler Center is a community hub offering a wide range of educational opportunities. Programs at the center include adult literacy, healthcare, hospitality, leadership development, public safety and workforce training. Designers and entrepreneurs can take advantage of the 3-D fabrication studio (known as The Fab Lab) located at the Fowler Center to develop prototypes and push the limits of their creativity.
