Lead Paint Abatement
The Bethlehem, Easton, and Northampton County (BEN) Lead Coalition is providing FREE lead abatement training to contractors and their workforce to learn how to safely remove lead paint from residential structures. Training is available to established contractors and potential new workers who will participate in BEN Lead Coalition projects within Northampton County. A BEN Lead Coalition priority is to ensure all projects have the necessary trained personnel, so our residents are protected from lead-based paint hazards.
RRP Refresher Course
This course was developed by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in collaboration with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to refresh the training of renovation, repair, and painting contractors in how to work safely in housing with lead-based paint and to teach them how to comply with both EPA's RRP Rule, and HUD's Lead Safe Housing Rule. All participants in this course must have a valid RRP Initial, Lead Abatement Worker, or Lead Abatement Supervisor certificate. This course is required to work in Northampton County's Lead Hazard Control Program and will be offered by EnviroEd, LLC, an EPA accredited training provider (Accreditation Number NAT-128533). Lead Abatement Worker - Initial Training Program
This course is designed to meet the requirements of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Labor and Industry's Lead Based Paint Occupation Accreditation and Certification Regulations, Section 203.3, as well as the EPA's requirements in 40 CFR, Part 745. This 16 hour course and certification examination (included), creates Lead Abatement Workers who can carry out any measure designed to permanently eliminate lead-based paint hazards in residential dwelling or child-occupied facilities. Topics include basic information regarding lead, pertinent laws and regulations, the identification and control of hazards, abatement methods, proper clean-up, and necessary recordkeeping. Upon successful completion of the accreditation exam (given in class) the student will leave the course with a 6 month accreditation. Additional applications will be completed in class to extend this accreditation for the full three (3) year term. This course is offered by the City of Bethlehem, a PA Department of Labor and Industry Accredited Training Provider (Accreditation Number 043). (16 Hours)
Lead Abatement Supervisor
This course is designed to meet the requirements of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry's Lead Based Paint Occupation Accreditation and Certification Regulations, Section 203.3, as well as the EPA's requirements in 40 CFR, Part 745. This 32 hour course will prepare the student to successfully complete the 3rd party Lead Abatement supervisor certification exam (not included). Topics include regulatory review, legal and insurance issues, health effects of lead, medical surveillance, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment, project management, lead based paint abatement and clearance, and waste disposal. After completion of the course, the student will need to make arrangements to take a 3rd Party certification exam - details to be provided during the course. This course will be offered by the City of Bethlehem, a PA Department of Labor and Industry Accredited Training Provider (Accreditation Pending).
