In many ways, web developers will engineer most 21st century communications. Web developers provide a number of fundamental skills that enable organizations to communicate and do business on the web.

The Web Development and Design programs provide students with the skills to help build the 21st century's digital domain. Students leave the program prepared to apply HTML, XML, Javascript, graphics applications, and other tools to the design, editing, and publishing of documents, images, graphics, sound, and multimedia products on the Web. The programs include instruction in web theory, web page standards and policies, elements of web page design, user interfaces, vector graphic tools, special effects, interactive and multimedia components, search engines, navigation, and emerging web technologies.

The Web Site Design program provides an introduction to the cycle of creative web site design and development as is commonly found in the industry today. Students will develop original design concepts created in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator software, and build layouts using Adobe Dreamweaver, hand-coded HTML & CSS, Javascript, and more.

Web developers use information technology (IT) to advance their organization's goals, and create websites to help firms have a public face. Many of these workers are employed in computer systems design and related services firms. Most web developers work full time.
