During the week of August 4th, we will be conducting our required Clery tabletop exercises for all three campuses to test our emergency response and evacuation procedures. The schedule for each campus is as follows:
Tuesday, August 5 – Fowler Campus
Wednesday, August 6 – Bethlehem Campus
Thursday, August 7 – Pocono Campus
These tabletop exercises will involve key campus stakeholders and are part of our annual Clery Act compliance, which requires that each campus conduct an emergency exercise at least once per year. This notice serves as part of that compliance requirement.
As part of these exercises, we will be testing our emergency alert system, Omnilert. A test emergency alert will be sent to your phone and email, and will be clearly marked as a test. These alerts will be issued between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM on each respective day of the exercise.
One of the Clery requirements is that the exercise has to be published to the entire campus community upon completion. The publication will be sent via email. In addition, upon completion of the tabletop exercise, participants will receive a survey to provide feedback about the drill.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Nathan Ramos, Chief of Public Safety.

Registration is now open for this fall's "Homecoming 2025: The Lenape Speak," the second annual conference focusing on Lenape culture. The conference is hosted by the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, and will be held at NCC's Pocono campus.
Based on feedback from last summer's inaugural conference, the 2025 event will be held over two days: Friday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 8.
This event will feature Lenape speakers from across the United States and Canada, who will offer panel discussions and hands-on workshops on Lenape history, language, craft, horticulture, food sovereignty and justice, medicine, and storytelling. There will also be screenings of three documentaries, and the event will close with a celebration with social dances.
In addition to attending these sessions, attendees will have time to visit exhibition tables where they can learn from speakers one-on-one. Light breakfast, lunch, and Lenape-inspired dinner (Friday only) will be served.
The conference is open to the public. Attendees can choose to register for one or both days; a reduced fee for students is available, and educators at all levels are encouraged to attend.
The Lenape are the indigenous people of eastern Pennsylvania, southern New York, New Jersey, and Northern Delaware.

We are recruiting staff and faculty to serve in an Advisor role within Title IX. If you are interested in hearing more about this role, please contact Alyson Patascher, Title IX Coordinator at apatascher@northampton.edu.
An Advisor in a Title IX process is an individual who provides support, guidance, and representation to a complainant or respondent throughout the grievance process. Title IX regulations (34 C.F.R. §106.45) entitle both parties—the individual who filed the complaint (complainant) and the accused (respondent)—to have an Advisor of their choice during all stages of the formal grievance process, including interviews, hearings, and appeals.
Key Responsibilities of an Advisor:
Support and Guidance: Advisors help their party understand the Title IX process, including timelines, rights, and procedures. They often assist in preparing statements, organizing evidence, and developing questions for cross-examination.
Cross-Examination at Hearings: Under the 2020 Title IX regulations, only Advisors—not the parties themselves—may conduct cross-examination of the other party and witnesses during a live hearing. This is one of the Advisor’s most critical and formal functions.
Clarifying Legal and Procedural Aspects: While not required to be attorneys, advisors may help interpret institutional policies and ensure that the party’s procedural rights are upheld. Some advisors are attorneys, but many are faculty or staff members, or individuals chosen by the party involved.
Emotional Support: Beyond legal or procedural roles, advisors often act as a source of emotional support during what can be a stressful and sensitive process.
Maintaining Confidentiality: Advisors must respect the privacy of the parties involved and comply with institutional rules regarding confidentiality and appropriate conduct.

The three Summer Artists-in-Residence from NCC’s East 40 program will culminate their residencies by offering free creative workshops to the public. They will be offered at NCC's East 40 in August and September (map: bit.ly/4e8V46y - look for #7).
Musician Kat Bohn will use her hammered dulcimer (a keyboard-style instrument) to create musical pieces inspired by the bees and pollinators at the East 40. She’ll be working with Danielle Schwesinger, East 40’s beekeeper, to capture the sounds of our pollinators to create “music.” Her workshop will be offered on Friday, Aug. 8 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Rain Black will be foraging materials from the East 40 to create twine and cord, which they will use to craft baskets and other functional objects. They will also use the East 40 for inspiration for their watercolors and nature journaling. Rain will offer two different dates: Wednesday, Aug. 13 and Wednesday, Sept. 17, both from 5:30-8 p.m.
Erika Salus will also be foraging for materials; she will use them for her papermaking. A photographer, she will take photos around our acreage and transfer the images onto the paper she made. The papermaking workshop will be offered on Monday, Aug. 4 from 3-5 p.m.
Workshops are filling fast! All the details are at ncceast40.org/community-education.

Join us for a brief presentation on early voting in Pennsylvania—learn how easy and convenient it is to cast your ballot before Election Day. Afterward, test your knowledge with a fun civic trivia game featuring prizes for the winners!
Plus, add your voice to our Democracy Wall by sharing what democracy means to you. It’s a great way to reflect on the importance of voting and civic engagement.
About Vote Early Day
Vote Early Day was founded by MTV as a new civic holiday focused on helping every voter know how, where, and when they can vote early. Launched in the midst of a global pandemic, Vote Early Day became a critical resource to ensure no voter had to choose between their health and casting their ballot. In its first celebration, Vote Early Day attracted 134 premier partners and 2,700 general partners from every state in the nation. Over 3,000,000 voters cast their ballots on Vote Early Day alone.
