Electrical technology graduate at Northampton Community College (NCC), Lishka Soto-Semidey, chose her major because she was interested in the hands-on labs and assignments that come with her program.
“I find it unique how I can take a technical elective, like welding, while I am in the electrical program. It gives me exposure to the different fields out there that are adjacent to my program. Trying other classes outside of my major makes me more well-rounded after graduation,” she says, noting that she’s been fortunate to have had a variety of classroom experiences during her college journey.
Her mother, Yessenia, attended NCC's Pocono campus to earn her medical billing specialized diploma in the early 2000s, and Soto-Semidey saw that this was a good choice for her to pursue her own degree.
As a Presidential Ambassador for NCC, she volunteers by ushering at events, providing tours, and helping her peers navigate campus. The Ambassadors receive a full tuition scholarship for their leadership and involvement in the campus community.
Soto-Semidey plans to head straight into the workforce upon graduation. Her ideal job would be working as a maintenance technician, responsible for keeping facilities, equipment and machinery in top working order through routine maintenance, inspections and repairs.
Wherever her journey takes her, Soto-Semidey is looking forward to troubleshooting and ensuring operations run more smoothly because of her work.
