ELECTRICIDAD

Some stories stay with us long after the lights go down. ELECTRICIDAD is a powerful, deeply nostalgic journey into family, memory, and the places that shape who we become. Set against the vibrant backdrop of East Los Angeles, this modern adaptation of Electra pulses with the sounds, traditions, and memories of a community caught between the past and the future. It is a story about what we inherit, what we remember, and what we desperately try to leave behind. ELECTRICIDAD invites audiences to revisit the people and places that made them—and to ask whether we can ever truly escape our past.

Luis Alfaro’s ELECTRICIDAD debuted at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago in 2004 and later opened at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles in 2005. Reviewers described the Chicano barrio retelling of Sophocles’ Electra as a fiery, witty, and visceral one-act drama that crackled with energy.

This vibrant adaptation of the Greek classic continues to ask: “What does it take to break the cycle of violence?”
