Free Construction and Operations Training at NCC

Northampton Community College (NCC) will be providing free training for Northampton County residents to enhance the skills of current home construction employees or prepare new employees for employment, thanks to a grant provided by the Northampton County Department of Economic Development.

The training program will include hands-on instruction in basic construction methods and operations, including hand and power tools, framing and applications of trim, drywall and wall repairs, door and window installation, ladder and scaffolding safety, and building code awareness.

Candidates successfully completing the program will earn an OSHA 10-Hour Outreach Training for Construction card. An employer day will also be included so participants will have the opportunity to network and interview with potential employers.

“The program will serve our communities and citizens in a number of unique ways.  Contractors will receive training on installation techniques and workplace safety, both key to running a successful business.  Local citizens will have the opportunity to take advantage of construction and safety training, which will qualify them for jobs with our local contractors.  Lastly, the work performed by our contractors and their teams will help local homeowners to upgrade living conditions, create more energy efficient homes, and again, increase home safety and security.  It is a win all the way around.  We are delighted that the County has partnered with NCC in this important work,” said NCC’s VP of Workforce Development/Community Education, Lauren Loeffler.

Interested participants must attend a mandatory information session on Wednesday, October 4 at either 10 – 11 a.m. or 2 – 3 p.m. at the Fowler Family Southside Center in Bethlehem, room 103.

Northampton County residents interested in registering should email Heather Ehritz at hehritz@northampton.edu for the information session and questions.
