NCC Recognized as 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus

Northampton Community College (NCC) has been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting. This recognition acknowledges colleges and universities for outstanding efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation. NCC joins a group of 471 colleges and universities recognized by ALL IN for completing four core actions:

  • Participating in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge
  • Sharing 2022 NSLVE Reports with campus voting data
  • Developing and submitting a 2024 democratic engagement action plan

NCC President, David A. Ruth, Ph.D. said, “The college encourages our students to vote and engage in other areas of our democracy. We teach the value in exercising our rights as Americans. We all have the power to make a lasting impact on our communities.”

This year, the Office of Student Life & Leadership Development started NCC Votes, an initiative to get students more involved with nonpartisan activities on campus. They hosted numerous events to enhance civic engagement and voter education including a Presidential Debate Watch Party, National Voter Education Week, a Post-Election Town Hall, and more. Students served as ambassadors for the program, and they hosted voter education tabling events twice a week, every week leading up to the election. NCC Votes gave over 13 classroom presentations to help students be better prepared for the upcoming election. Students also attended the Pennsylvania Student Voting Summit with other colleges and universities across the Commonwealth.

“One of our other achievements we are very proud of is that our campus democratic engagement plan is being utilized as a national example and we scored a total of 35 out of 36 possible points for the plan that was submitted,” said NCC’s Assistant Director, Student Life & Leadership Development, Nykolai Blichar.

“The research is clear: colleges and universities that make intentional efforts to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement have higher campus voter registration and voter turnout rates. This year we saw more colleges than ever before step up their efforts to ensure that their students were registered and ready to make their voices heard at the ballot box,” said Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, Jennifer Domagal-Goldman. “These Most Engaged Campuses are setting the standard for nonpartisan civic engagement work for colleges and universities across the country.”

Campuses have the support of ALL IN staff to institutionalize nonpartisan civic learning and voter participation on their campus. The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge currently engages 10.8 million students from more than 1,075 institutions in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
