Grad Spotlight: Lora Zenner

Graduate Lora Zenner chose Northampton Community College (NCC) for its affordability and the wide range of opportunities available to students determined to put themselves through college. She was awarded the R. Dale & Frances M. Hughes Scholarship Endowment to help her with college tuition, which she says is just one example of how NCC helped her start her journey.

Encouraged by family and educators who recognized NCC as a strong first step, Zenner quickly found her path in criminal justice in fall 2023 on NCC’s Pocono campus.

Zenner is particularly interested in becoming a victim advocate—an emotionally and mentally demanding role she believes is worth pursuing. “[The victims] may not have a voice or be afraid. I want to help bridge the gap there,” she says. She is also drawn to crime scene investigation, another way to seek justice for victims.

While at NCC, Zenner earned two certificates — Addiction Treatment and Addiction 101—to strengthen her understanding of substance use and its impact on individuals, families, and victims of crime. She believes this knowledge will make her a more informed, compassionate professional.

Zenner’s academic achievements include earning a transfer scholarship to East Stroudsburg University, where she will continue her education after NCC, and being named to the Dean’s List twice.

Zenner tells her peers, “Never give up on your goals—they are always achievable one way or another. My time at NCC taught me a new level of independence and confidence and showed me that my goals are more than achievable.”
