Northampton Community College’s Pocono campus is proud to announce that it has been awarded a grant from the R. Dale and Frances M. Hughes Foundation to continue to expand its Planning SMARTer personal finance program. Free to participants, this program strives to help students and community members build healthy financial habits and long-term financial stability. Participants have opportunities to engage in real-world financial scenarios, receive one-on-one guidance, and build confidence in managing their personal finances.
Originally launched in 2022 to promote financial literacy in Monroe County, Planning SMARTer has helped hundreds of participants develop essential skills in budgeting, saving, credit management, and debt reduction. In addition to serving the community at large, NCC Pocono partners with PathStone, a non-profit community development and human services organization in Tannersville, to provide financial literacy training to their clients. Planning SMARTer is also approved to serve as an ACT 158 alternate assessment for Stroudsburg High School students.
This renewal of funding for Planning SMARTer will facilitate expansion to serve other community organizations and Monroe County school districts, as well as to offer on-campus programming at NCC Pocono for students and community members.
