Hone Your Skills Through Experiential Learning

At Northampton, we help you prepare for an exciting career in the design industry by integrating hands-on learning into each step of your education. As an interior design major, you gain practice working with state-of-the-art design stations, technology, and software, including SketchUp, Archicad, and AutoCAD.

You also enrich your education with field studies and trips with the American Institute of Architects student chapter. These experiences within our design studio sequence build your knowledge of architectural history and modern interior design, design principles, and how to work with lighting, textiles, flooring, and other materials.

What You’ll Learn

Whether you pursue an associate degree or a specialized diploma, Northampton’s Interior Design Program equips you with a strong foundation in design principles, architectural history, and technical skills for a thriving career.

As an interior design major, you study the rich history of design and architecture from antiquity to the present day. Your education also integrates a hands-on approach to learning, ensuring you master drafting techniques for professional design plans and industry-standard design software. Additionally, you gain experience delivering presentations that outline your designs, mood boards, color theory, and material selection.

Along with the interior design courses, you take general education classes in English, math, and social sciences to round out your education, fine-tune your communication skills, and boost your overall career readiness.

Program Overview:

Kick-start your career as a professional interior designer with an AAS degree in Interior Design. In our two-year program, you gain an understanding of and appreciation for interior and architectural design and history. You also build foundational knowledge in drafting and technical skills using Archicad and AutoCAD software and more. Our program allows you to study full-time or part-time and achieve your goals.

Program Overview:

NCC’s Interior Design specialized diploma empowers you to expand your existing skills or pursue an accelerated career path. Our expedited program allows you to establish broad competencies in creating hand-drawn and computer designs, dive into specialties like architecture and kitchen and bath design, and complete projects with the guidance of professional architects and designers.

With part-time and full-time enrollment options, you can study at your own pace and take daytime and evening interior design courses. And if you want to advance your credentials later on, you’ll already have two semesters of credit toward an AAS degree at NCC!

Program Overview:

Looking to specialize your interior design knowledge? Our Kitchen and Bath Design specialized diploma offers a shorter, part-time academic program that concentrates on developing your kitchen and bath design expertise. Enroll in classes that cover broad interior design principles, lighting in kitchen and bath environments, production drawings, and leading-edge computer design software. If you want to develop your career further, you can apply these credits to the Interior Design specialized diploma or AAS degree programs at NCC.
